Bills to protect the labor rights and improve the working conditions of domestic workers are being submitted to the National Assembly one after another. The Ministry of Employment and Labor which prepared a bill on domestic workers has pre-announced it on June 26.
Rep. Lee Jeong-mi of the minor opposition Justice Party in the Environment and Labor Committee of the National Assembly submitted a bill for the legislation to improve the employment conditions of domestic workers. Rep. Lee said in the press briefing that even though the number of domestic workers increased to 300,000 due to rising demands of the society , they are not officially recognized as the employees and not protected by the law.
Rep. Seo Hyung-soo of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea has also submitted a bill on domestic workers on June 16.
