Rep. Kim Young-joo of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, who is currently serving as her third term lawmaker, was tapped as the minister of employment and labor by President Moon Jae-in. When she is endorsed by the parliamentary confirmation hearing, she will become the first woman labor and employment minister since the Labor Administration Office was promoted to the Ministry of Labor in 1981.

Labor minister nominee Kim Young-joo had been an active unionist serving as standing vice-president of the Korean Financial Industry Union(KFIU) under the umbrella of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions(FKTU) before entering into the politics. She also served as the chairwoman of the Environment and Labor Committee of the National Assembly.
