Job creation is the top priority of the new administration as illustrated by the move that President Moon Jae-in ordered the establishment of the Presidential Committee on Job Creation, immediately after his taking office on May 10.

The Federation of Korean Trade Unions(FKTU) which had made the 'policy solidarity compact' with President Moon during the presidential election campaign period seems to have decided to participate in the Presidential Committee on Job Creation. FKTU in fact has seconded its union officers to the Presidential Advisory Committee for State Affairs Planning and the senior presidential secretary's office for job creation.

However, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) is scheduled to hold a central executive committee on June 8 for the conclusion of the internal debates which continued for several weeks amid the concerns on the aftermath of its participation in the government committee.

The Presidential Committee on Job Creation is comprised of 30 members; 15 government members and 15 civilian members. Members representing labor are only three; one each for FKTU and KCTU and another one for the precarious workers' organizations. Labor circles are concerned about the ineffective reflection of workers' voices in the deliberation and decision-making process of the committee.
