About a thousand of migrant workers gathered in a migrant workers' rally held on October 14 in the heart of downtown Seoul to call for the "introduction of work permit system(WPS)" and to stop "discrimination and hostility towards migrant workers".
The current 'employment permit system(EPS)' in Korea limits 'free workplace change' for unskilled migrant workers to three times during a valid permit period of three years, because they have to obtain a labor contract in place prior to labor migration to Korea from their country of origin. The restriction on workplace change has long been criticized for a major reason of the abuse and discrimination towards migrant workers at the workplaces.
