The government confirmed and announced the hourly minimum wage of 8,350 won(US$7.43) for the year 2019 as had been proposed by the Minimum Wage Commission. The objection which had been raised by the employers' organizations to the proposed minimum wage for next year was not accepted. However, it is reported that a social dialogue will be pursued to discuss the issues in relation to the change of the minimum wage fixation system and the separate application of the minimum wages based on the industry, region and business size insisted by the employers' organizations.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor decided not to accept the objection to the minimum wage proposal raised by the three employers' organizations: Korea Employers Federation(KEF), Korea Federation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises(KBIZ), and Korea Federation of Micro Enterprises(KFME). While confirming and announcing the minimum wage for the year 2019, Employment and Labor Minister Kim Young-joo said that the meeting for the heads of regional employment and labor offices found "no flaws in the procedures of deliberation and determination of the minimum wage after thoroughly and circumspectly reviewing the three cases of complaints" and "the meeting judged that the minimum wage determination was independently and impartially made within the legitimate authority given to the Minimum Wage Commission."
