President Moon Jae-in and labor chiefs of two trade union national centers, the Federation of Korean Trade Unions(FKTU) and Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU), had a meeting where they had a discussion on pending labor issues including the minimum wage act amendment. The meeting was quickly arranged, when the Blue House accepted the request of the labor circle to have a talk with President Moon himself. The labor circle has called on the Blue House to arrange a meeting with President Moon for the complementary and supporting measures for the low wage workers who are unavoidably subject to the wage reduction due to the revised Minimum Wage Act that to a large extent expanded minimum wage components. Having considered that the labor circle had even declared their withdrawal from the social dialogue bodies including the Minimum Wage Council and the conflicts between the government and labor unions have been escalated, it is understood that President Moon decided to have a talk with the labor circle to restore the deteriorated relations between the government and labor unions.

The meeting was held on Jul.3, by taking an advantage of an event on the same day to launch a presidential committee to prepare celebrations for the centennial anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement and the establishment of Korea's provisional government in Shanghai in 1919 with the participation of President Moon Jae-in and all of its committee members including FKTU president Kim Ju-young and KCTU president Kim Myung-hwan at Culture Station Seoul 284(old Seoul Station).

After hearing the opinions from both presidents of the two trade union national centers, Presidnt Moon said that "even though there exit differences in the opinions, dialogue should be continued." In relation to the withdrawal of the labor circle from the social dialogue, President Moon said that "even if conflicts exist, we need social dialogue," and he requested both FKTU and KCTU to return to the social dialogue. President Moon also reconfirmed his commitment to the ratification of ILO core conventions.
