The Ministry of Employment and Labor(MOEL) will be reviewing relevant laws if it can cancel the administrative order which stripped the KTU of its legal status in 2013 under the Park Geun-hye administration. It was revealed by Employment and Labor Minister Kim Young-ju as a response to a request made by the KTU president Cho Chang-ik on Jun. 19 to cancel the administrative order.
However, until now the government has maintained the position to wait for a verdict by the Supreme Court on a lawsuit filed by the KTU on the government's decision of its illegal status. The lawsuit is still pending at the Supreme Court, even after it was submitted to the Supreme Court 2 years and 4 months ago. The KTU has lost the case in the first and second trials. It is also reported that if the KTU loses again at the Supreme Court, the government plans to restore the legal status of the KTU through the amendments to the Trade Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act and the Act on the Establishment, Operation, etc., of Trade Unions for Teachers.
