It is confirmed that the Korean Financial Industry Union(KFIU) mulls over the introduction of a 4-day work week(32 working hours a week). The move is intended to take the lead in creating good jobs for young people by sharing jobs through the reduction of working hours. The union even indicated its willingness to endure the subsequent wage cuts due to the reduced working hours. In recent, the labor circle actively moves to implement the social responsibilities as seen in the cases of the public win-win solidarity fund launched by public sector workers, solidarity wage in favor of low wage workers by the Korean Metal Workers Union(KMWU) and job-sharing by KFIU.

According to the KFIU report on the reduction of working hours, it came up with two plans. Plan A maintains a 5-day work week with one day free, whereas Plan B extends a 5-day work week to a 7-day work week by allocating 4-day work week to the incumbent workers and 3-day work week to the new recruits. Both plans require the new recruitments and it is anticipated to create 26,000 new jobs at least in the banking sector.
