Korea Railroad Corporation(Korail) and Korean Railway Workrs' Union(KRWU) reached an agreement to reinstate 98 dismissed workers, which remained an entangled issue over 15 years, only two days after the inauguration of new CEO Oh Young-sik.

According to the trade union, two sides held a top level labor-management talk at the Korail headquarters in Daejeon on the afternoon of Feb.8. In the talk, KRWU President Kang Cheol called on Korail for "the honor recovery of union members who sacrificed themselves to resist the rail privatization and to protect the publicness of railway service at all costs and the reinstatement of dismissed union members." He also made a suggestion to "work together to improve various rail systems in good faith for the creation of safe railways without any fatal incidents while on duty."

Korail accepted the union's demand for the reinstatement of dismissed union members and agreed to reinstate all of the dismissed workers at the earliest possible and prepare an actual implementation plan. The number of dismissed union members that KRUW demands is 98. Most of them were dismissed by the disciplinary actions for their involvement in the strikes opposing the government rail policies and privatization.

They also agreed to set up a committee tentatively named the rail development committee in which specialists and civic organizations will be also invited to join to review the rail privatization policy of the previous administrations.
