Fatal accidents continue to occur at the construction sites. The collapse of a tower crane and the fall of concrete forms for which workers were dismantling claimed four lives. The accidents happened again in apartment construction sites in Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province and in Daegu City on October 10, 5 months after the crash of tower cranes at Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province and a tower crane crash in Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province in May this year where 9 workers died.

The installation and dismantlement of tower cranes are generally carried out by the subcontractors which may not have adequate knowledge on the equipments due to the widespread task outsourcing in the construction industry. Trade unions call for a solution to the structural problem related to the repeated fatal accidents at the construction sites.
