The Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) successfully organized a social general strike on June 30 that the precarious workers - most of them were women workers - took the lead, for the first time in the history of organized labor movement in Korea.
According to the KCTU, about 60,000 precarious workers had participated in the social general strike on Friday, approximately 30% of 180,000 unionized precarious workers under the umbrella of the KCTU. They are minimum wage workers in the precarious jobs.
Along with the main mobilizing force of school kitchen workers, cleaning and security service workers. members of an independent women workers' union and unionized regular workers of teachers' union and civil servants' union also joined the social general strike rally for their solidarity action.
