A fact was belatedly unveiled that 14 workers en masse have suffered from skin diseases in recent one year after having contacted special chemical substances in an electronics company located in Gwangju City, which produces home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor(MOEL) and Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency(KOSHA) became aware of the skin disease accident of the electronics company, due to the report made by the Gwangju Workers' Health Center and investigated into the workplace in April this year. Shortly after the authority's investigation, the working process of the company was improved, but the victims were not able to apply for the industrial accident compensation insurance.

The accident was even excluded from the industrial accident statistics, citing the case not meeting the industrial accident reporting standards of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. This seems to be the case that an industrial accident was legitimately hidden.

According to the information released by the MOEL and KOSHA on June 25, 14 workers who are on the production lines of an electronics company in Gwangju City have been suffering from skin diseases of itching and rash on their hands from July last year, with exposure to chemical substances while using the sealing compound materials.

In January this year, the company came to know that workers had skin problems during the in-house safety education program and took basic measures by providing the gloves to the workers. However, a worker whose skin conditions were getting worse came to the Gwangju Workers Health Center for the counseling. The center reported the case to the KOSHA which made an inspection into the workplace.
