A policy consultation meeting was held on June 2 between the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) and the Presidential Advisory Committee for State Affairs Planning which acts as the presidential transition committee. It was the first time that KCTU had a dialogue with the new administration, since President Moon Jae-in took office on May 10.

While welcoming the visit of social division members of the Presidential Advisory Committee for State Affairs Planning which is a de facto presidential transition committee, KCTU acting president Choi Jong-jin said that "the visit would be tantamount to the President Moon's labor special envoy to KCTU" and expressed his expectation that "President Moon could also visit KCTU following the precedents of two former presidents of Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun."

Prof. Kim Yeon-myung, social division head, explained that "the duty of the social division of the Presidential Advisory Committee is drawing up labor and social policies for the next 5 years of the new administration". While emphasizing the importance of the labor circle as a policy partner, he said that "it is important to take a judicious approach to the labor issues."

It seems that labor and government are taking steps forward to build a new relationship, departing from the acute confrontation period during the former conservative administrations of Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye.
