Construction equipment workers, who are regarded as the self-employed in special forms of employment, demanded the guarantee of basic labor rights, eligibility for industrial accident compensation insurance, obligatory application for retirement mutual aid, and abolition of right to indemnity against liability.

An amendment bill of the Trade Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act to define the self-employed in the special forms of employment as the workers is pending. Other amendment bills for the coverage of the industrial accident compensation insurance and the abolition of the right to indemnity are also stuck at the National Assembly.

Presidential candidates of Moon Jae-in of the Democratic Party of Korea, Yoo Seong-min of the Bareun Party, Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party and Kim Sun-dong of the People's United Party expressed their willingness to accept the demands of the construction equipment workers. Only Ahn Cheol-soo nominated by the People's Party said that he will take action, following the public opinion hearing process.
