The annual congress of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions(FKTU) was held on February 23 in Seoul, following the election of new FKTU leadership in late January.

The congress decided the 2017 policies and activities and endorsed a new presidium with the election of 29 vice-presidents and 4 auditors among whom two are in charge of women and contingent workers.

It also passed an amendment in the bylaws that standing executives including president are not allowed for political activities by the means of obtaining the party membership or being elected officers of the party, and the appointment of government officials including cabinet members.

The congress also decided to form a 'presidential election planning group' for the purpose of selecting a presidential candidate who is supported the most by the members. The 'planning group' will enter into action, immediately after the impeachment trial of President Park Geun-hye finishes at the Constitutional Court in early March.
