The Seoul Education Office on January 30 announced that it will recruit 587 education affairs assistants who are neither teachers nor public servants in their employment status in the first half of this year. The positions are available in 21 classified jobs ranging from cooks to school administration assistants.

The Seoul Education Office regularly recruits education affairs assistants two times a year in the past and it hired 1,067 new workers last year. Among 587 new recruits this time, the largest are cooks(157), followed by edu-care workers(139) who take care of children of the households in a situation which both parents are working.

Edu-care workers are in charge of after-school programs at the kindergartens. The Seoul Education Office also recruits 61 school administration assistants, 52 part-time primary school children care workers, and 61 education trainers. 68 positions of the total recruits are specifically allocated for the disabled.

From last year, it became the educational superintendent who decides the recruitment of education affairs supporting staff. Those who are recruited will go through the probation period of three-months and can work at the schools and institutions until the retirement age of 60 in the employment status of open ended employment contracts, or they can work in fixed term employment contracts.
