Kim Joo-young, president of the Federation of Korean Public Industry Trade Unions(FKPITU) and his running mate Lee Sung-kyung, president of the Federation of Korean Rubber Workers' Unions were newly elected as the president and general secretary of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions(FKTU) respectively.
The FKTU leadership election was held in a competition between two contenders, Kim Joo-young and Kim Man-jae, both of whom were known as the reformists within the FKTU. Kim Joo-young received a convincing majority support of 60.2%, whereas Kim Man-jae managed to secure the support of 39.45%.
FKTU president-elect Kim Joo-young stressed the overarching task of 'the regime change through building the strong FKTU based on unity' in his election speech standing before the congregated union representatives in the election convention. He also reconfirmed his commitment to the change and innovation of the FKTU centered on the rank-and-file membership and vulnerable groups of workers.
FKTU president-elect Kim Joo-young had experienced two failed bids for the FKTU leadership elections before he was finally elected as FKTU president this time. He takes office from January 31 for the term of three years.
