With the termination of contracts with four subcontractor companies, the GM Korea Changwon Plant sent out the dismissal notice to 360 contingent workers.
This move raised a suspicion that the GM Korea Changwon Plant would target these subcontractor companies whose workers were largely unionized by the Korean Metal Workers' Union for the reason of terminating the contracts.
According to the union local, there are eight in-house subcontractor companies currently operating at the GM Korea Changwon Plant, among which the contract term of four subcontractor companies expires by the end of December this year. 360 workers of these four in-house subcontractor companies received the notice on the termination of employment relationship on November 30.
100 out of 360 contingent workers facing dismissals are unionized and it is two thirds of the total union membership of the GM Korea Changwon Contingent Workers' Union Local.
