The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) will stage a political general strike demanding President Park Geun-hye to resign from the presidency and to revoke the political, economic and social policies which have been pursued by the Park Geun-hye government.

The KCTU held the Central Executive Committee on November 17 in its head office and unanimously agreed to a poli...tical general strike to be staged on November 30.

A political strike in Korea is prohibited by the Trade Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act. The decision to go on a political strike by the KCTU seems to be an organizational resolution to respond to the democracy crisis in Korea despite the controversial risk on the legality of the strike.

Members of the KCTU Central Executive Committee came to such a unanimous decision in that since President cannot be charged with a criminal offense while in office, except in cases of insurrection or treason, in pursuant to the Constitution, President Park does not want to resign by putting efforts to salvage her presidency deeply wounded due to the snowballing Choi Soon-sil scandal of the manipulation of state affairs and corruption.

The KCTU Committee endorsed the agenda tabled as the 'general strike to call for President Park Geun-hye to step down immediately and to revoke Park Geun-hye government policies'.

According to the KCTU resolution, all affiliates will follow a more-than-four hour walkout on November 30 across the nation. Those located near Seoul will join the massive rally in Seoul and others will organize their own rallies in respective cities and provinces on the same day.
