Another fatal industrial accident occurred at a subcontractor company of the Hyundai Heavy Industries(HII) on the first day of business segmentation.

It is the first death toll at the outsourced business following the corporate decision of structural adjustment.

A worker hired by a ship-part loading subcontractor called Daekook was hit to death by a fallen ship part from 1.5 meter high above while he was loading the ship parts.

According to the HHI trade union and subcontractor workers union, the accident happened when Daekook and another crane-operating firm Mos were working together to move the ship parts with the goliath cranes.

Mos is a subsidiary established by the HHI as a part of business segmentation to handle the electricity and electronics, crane repair and operation, and construction equipment business.

It is known that both the goliath crane operator and the flag signalling man were inexperienced workers on their first day at work.

Trade unions argue that the accident happened because of HHI's business segmentation which exposes too much danger to the workers of outsourced firms.
